What are Beach Baskets made from? The baskets are made from recycled or beach-foraged crab fishing rope. Rope ages and becomes too brittle for pulling crab pots from the ocean floor, at that point the fisherman retires the rope. That’s where I come in and use it for baskets.
Is that kelp on some of the baskets? I often find Bull kelp wrapped in rope and driftwood on the beach. I create kelp wreaths to further connect the rope to the ocean and beach. The kelp is dried in my toaster oven and incorporated into the basket. If the kelp gets wet it will reconstitute into a supple material. It’s best to keep the kelp dry. It is also quite delicate in it’s dried form.
Can I use my Beach Basket outside? I do not recommend using your basket as an outdoor object. The materials used in creating it will fade in the sun.
How do I care for my basket? Beach Baskets are really tough. An occasional dusting is all that’s needed. If your basket gets squished out of shape you can manipulate it back into shape quite easily.
How long will it take to get my beach basket? We ship UPS ground so 5 to 10 days is normal.
