The Tide Giveth
Wind and waves bring a unique bounty to our local beaches. Rope of all kinds – with mysterious pasts and unknown lands of origin – grace the shore on the incoming tide. Nature’s forces make subtle and softening changes to the rope; barnacles call some pieces “home.”
On her daily walks along the ocean’s edge, Long Beach Peninsula graphic designer/artist Susan Spence envisioned a new life for this cast-off cordage that drifts in. Each piece of foraged rope is carefully cleaned then hand-stitched and finished into a one-of-a-kind piece by Susan, who possesses a keen eye for quality, artistry and color.
